How strong are PEB structures compared to concrete buildings?
India's construction industry has evolved in the last few decades. PEB and concrete buildings dominate the sector. Both serve different purposes and have unique advantages. While concrete has been the traditional choice for homes and offices, PEB structures have gained popularity in industrial and commercial sectors. Many people in India wonder which is better—PEB or concrete? Here, we will share some insights comparing their strength and overall performance.
What is a PEB Structure?
A PEB consists of factory-made steel components. These parts arrive at the site ready for assembly. This approach reduces construction time and labour costs. PEB structures are widely used in warehouses, factories, commercial spaces, and metro stations.
What is a Concrete Building?
Concrete buildings use a mix of cement, sand, gravel, and water. Steel reinforcement provides additional strength. These structures have been the backbone of India's construction sector for decades. However, longer construction time and high material costs are challenges.
Strength and Durability
PEB structures use high-grade steel, which provides excellent tensile strength. This allows them to handle tension and stretching forces better than many traditional materials. Their flexibility makes them highly resistant to earthquakes, strong winds, and other extreme weather conditions. Unlike rigid structures, PEB buildings can absorb shocks and vibrations without significant damage. This makes them an ideal choice for regions prone to seismic activity or unpredictable weather patterns.
Another key advantage of PEB structures is their adaptability to expansion needs. Businesses, factories, and warehouses often require structural modifications as they grow. PEB buildings support easy extensions without extensive reconstruction. Additional sections can be integrated seamlessly, reducing downtime and saving costs.
With proper maintenance, PEB buildings can last over 50 years. Advanced protective coatings prevent rust and corrosion, making them suitable for diverse Indian climates, including coastal and high-humidity areas. These coatings enhance the lifespan of steel components.
PEB structures provide strength without unnecessary weight. This reduces foundation requirements. This lightweight nature makes construction faster and more cost-effective while maintaining the necessary structural integrity.
Concrete buildings offer outstanding compressive strength and stability. They withstand heavy loads and remain a reliable choice for many traditional structures. However, for projects requiring speed and flexibility, PEB structures offer a forward-thinking alternative.

How PEBs contribute to reduced construction waste?
Construction practices are constantly evolving to minimise environmental impact. Pre-engineered buildings (PEBs), also known as prefabricated steel buildings, are emerging as a sustainable alternative to traditional construction methods. One of their key advantages lies in their ability to significantly reduce construction waste. Here, we share some of the ways in which a PEB steel structure can reduce waste generated during the construction process.
Traditional construction and the waste problem:
Conventional construction sites often generate a substantial amount of waste due to various factors, including:
- Improper material management: On-site cutting and fabrication of building components can lead to excess scraps and offcuts.
- Site variations and errors: Unexpected changes in plans or mistakes during construction can result in unusable materials or resource wastage. These factors can greatly increase the amount of waste produced.
- Limited reusability: Traditional building materials, such as concrete or bricks, often cannot be reused once they are discarded.
These factors contribute to overflowing landfills and strain natural resources. PEBs offer a solution by promoting a more controlled and efficient building process.
How PEBs contribute to reduced waste?
PEBs address the waste problem through several key aspects:
- Off-site fabrication: Unlike traditional construction, where materials are cut and assembled on-site, PEBs are manufactured in controlled factory environments. This allows for precise measurements and minimal wastage during the fabrication process.
- Computer-aided design (CAD): PEBs use advanced CAD software to optimise material usage. Every component is designed to specific requirements, reducing the likelihood of errors and unnecessary material use.
- Higher reusability: The steel components used in PEBs are highly recyclable. At the end of a PEB's lifespan, the steel can be dismantled and repurposed for new construction projects, minimising the demand for virgin materials.

What are the components of a PEB structure? Useful insights by one of the leading PEB structure manufacturers
Pre-engineered buildings (PEBs) have become highly popular in modern construction projects for several reasons, including lower costs and reduced project completion times. Off-site fabrication leads to minimal resource wastage, making these construction projects more sustainable and cost-effective. PEBs comprise various components that are fitted together to complete a structure. Here, we share some insights into some of these components.
1. Primary Members:
As the name suggests, this is the main framework of a PEB. High-quality steel is used to create rafters and columns that support the weight of the finished structure. Precise measurements and advanced technology enable the creation of primary framework components in a way that allows easy assembly at the construction site. Once the primary members are in place, the PEB can progress to further stages.
2. Secondary Members:
While primary members support the overall load of the building, secondary members are necessary for greater robustness and strength. Purlins, running along the roof of the PEB, act as structural support for the roof, preventing it from collapsing. Girts perform a similar function for the walls of the pre-engineered building. Eave struts are another form of secondary member that provide necessary support between rafters and columns.
3. Roof and Cladding Systems:
Roof and cladding systems in PEBs ensure weatherproofing and proper insulation, while also adding aesthetic appeal to the structure. These components are made using high-grade materials to withstand harsh weather and environmental conditions. Galvanization and similar protective coatings are applied to roofing components to enhance their resistance to corrosion.
4. Accessories
PEBs also allow for the incorporation of additional accessories, such as doors, ventilation systems, and windows. These elements are not only functionally necessary but also enhance the building’s aesthetic appeal. It is possible to include custom openings in the design during the fabrication process without compromising structural integrity.

The rise of PEB structure in residential spaces
In Pre-engineered Buildings (PEBs), components are fabricated in a controlled factory setting and then assembled at the designated construction site. Each PEB component must be meticulously designed and measured. The dimensions of all components need to be perfect for all the pieces to fit together seamlessly. While PEBs have been popular in industrial settings for some time, these pre-engineered components are increasingly being used in residential constructions too. As one of the leading PEB structure manufacturers, we share some of the benefits of PEB structures in residential spaces:
1. Efficient and quick construction:
Construction of homes using PEBs is significantly faster than traditional methods. The different construction components for a home are already pre-engineered offsite. During the actual construction phase, all that remains is to assemble these precisely measured components. Also, since all components are designed to match specifications precisely, there is very little room for errors or delays in the project.
2. Cost-effectiveness:
PEB structure construction involves precise measurements and specifications, ensuring minimal wastage of raw materials. Also, the time taken for construction is considerably minimised. All these factors contribute to making residential project construction much more cost-effective compared to traditional methods.
Note: PEBs help to save about 10%-15% on the total expenditure for large-span steel buildings. In comparison, the construction cost of RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete) buildings typically runs higher at the construction site.
3. Customisation and design flexibility:
There is often a concern that PEBs cannot be customised or personalised. This is a misconception, as PEBs can now be given unique shapes and architectural elements. This allows architects and engineers to pre-engineer even personalised spaces without compromising on specific aesthetic concepts that homeowners want.
4. Structural integrity:
PEBs offer enhanced structural integrity and durability. Quality steel is used for PEBs, allowing them to withstand various environmental factors. For instance, PEBs possess a higher capability to withstand earthquake forces, owing to their significant ductility and ability to deflect. In contrast, concrete structures, often burdened by their substantial weight, are less adept at resisting the impacts of earthquakes.
...5. Possibility of Future Modifications:
PEBs allow for future expansion or renovations in residential settings. One can add floors or extend the property as and when needed in the future. This can be done primarily because of the modular nature of the components fabricated. Any planned modification can also be achieved quickly and without causing too much disruption.

Here, we share some of the insights into the customisation possibilities for an industrial PEB building
1. Size and shape
One of the primary advantages of PEBs is their remarkable flexibility when it comes to size and shape. These buildings are highly adaptable and can be designed to meet the specific needs of various industrial requirements, ranging from small warehouses to large manufacturing facilities. The versatility of PEB buildings lies in their ability to be customised to accommodate different dimensions, configurations, layouts, spans, and heights.
This flexibility allows businesses to optimise the use of space and create efficient solutions that suit their unique industry and application. Whether it's adjusting the layout to maximise productivity, accommodating specialised equipment, or expanding the building in the future, PEB structures provide the necessary flexibility to meet evolving needs. This adaptability makes PEB buildings an ideal choice for industries looking for versatile and efficient construction solutions.2. Roofing and wall systems
The interior layout of an industrial PEB building can be customised to suit specific operational requirements. The freedom to create the frame without internal columns allows for easy division of the space into different functional areas, such as production zones, storage areas, office spaces, or employee facilities. Partition walls can be added or removed as needed, providing the flexibility to adapt the layout over time to accommodate evolving needs.
3. Heavy equipment and crane support
Industrial operations often require the use of cranes and heavy machinery. PEB buildings can be designed to accommodate various types of cranes, including overhead travelling cranes, gantry cranes, or jib cranes. The structural design can be customised to support the required load capacities and clearances, ensuring safe and efficient material handling within the facility. Also, specialised foundations and anchorages can be integrated into the building structure to provide stability and support for heavy equipment.
4. Windows and doors
PEB buildings can be fitted with a wide range of door and window options to meet the specific functional and aesthetic requirements of the facility. Industrial-sized overhead doors, sliding doors, or roll-up doors can be installed to facilitate the movement of goods and vehicles. Similarly, windows can be strategically placed to optimise natural light, provide ventilation and create a pleasant working environment. These customisation options contribute to energy efficiency, employee comfort and overall operational efficiency.
5. Aesthetics and exterior finishes
PEB buildings offer a range of exterior finishes and architectural details to enhance the visual appeal of industrial structures. The exteriors can be customised with a variety of colours, textures and finishes to match corporate branding or blend with the surrounding environment. This customisation allows industrial facilities to maintain a professional appearance while integrating seamlessly into the overall architectural landscape.

Here we discuss some insights on PEB steel structures:
➔ The concept of PEBs originated in the USA after World War II. It emerged as a solution to meet the rising demand for fast and cost-effective construction methods during a period of rapid economic growth. The success of PEBs in the USA led to the transfer of this concept to other industrialised countries, where it gained popularity for its efficiency, speed, and versatility in meeting construction needs.
➔ In a PEB structure, primary members play a crucial role as they are responsible for carrying the main load and providing structural support. These primary members consist of columns, rafters, and other supporting elements. Their shape and size are determined based on the specific application and project requirements.
The main frame components, such as columns and rafters, are interconnected by bolting the end plates of each section together. This secure connection method ensures the structural integrity and stability of the building. The precise alignment and fastening of these primary members are essential to achieve a robust and reliable structure.
➔ Secondary structural framing includes various components such as girts, purlins and base angles. These elements play an essential role in providing additional support, stability, and functionality to metal building frames.

Safety considerations in PEB sheds
A Pre-engineered Building (PEB) shed is composed of prefabricated sections that are manufactured off-site and then assembled on-site. These structures have a built-in framing system and are significantly lighter than traditional sheds. PEB sheds are produced using a single design that incorporates different materials to meet diverse structural demands in various industries, such as warehouses, factory sheds, and agricultural sheds. During the design process, it is important to consider a range of safety factors to guarantee the well-being of workers, equipment, and the structure as a whole. The following are some of the essential considerations:
Wind Load:
The term 'Wind Load' pertains to the pressure exerted by wind on the PEB structure. The wind load on a PEB can have a significant impact on its stability and safety. The three types of wind forces that can act on a building are :
Uplift load: It refers to the wind flow pressure that can create a lifting effect on the roof which is similar to the lift generated on aeroplane wings. When strong winds blow over a roof, the wind flow creates a low-pressure zone that tends to pull the roof upwards, while the gush of wind under the roof creates a high-pressure zone that pushes the roof upwards.
Shear load: It refers to the horizontal wind pressure causing the walls to rack or tilt.
Lateral load: It refers to the horizontal pushing and pulling pressure on walls that can make a structure slide off the foundation or even overturn
Seismic Load:
It refers to the level of seismic energy or waves of energy that travel through the earth that a PEB structure would need to endure in a specific geographic location. While designing a PEB shed, it is important to consider the location, soil condition and building requirements. For instance, if the PEB shed is being installed in an area that experiences frequent seismic activities, materials used for construction should be sturdy and earthquake-resistant. For instance, steel and concrete are the ideal manufacturing materials for such conditions. There are several parameters to calculate seismic loads. Some of them include:
Earthquake parameters at the building site include soil type, slope and frequency of seismic activities.
The building characteristics include the type of materials used, the height and shape of the structure that can withstand the magnitude of the earthquake.
The construction quality of the building such as its damping ratio, natural frequency and the weight of the structure.
Conventional buildings made of masonry tend to be more brittle and can suffer severe damage or even collapse during an earthquake. In contrast, PEB structures typically include steel, which is a more ductile material, allowing the structure to flex and absorb seismic energy without suffering significant damage.
Fire Safety:
Because PEB sheds are constructed using fire-rated materials such as steel or concrete, they can be less likely to catch fire than traditional building materials like wood. Also, it is important to maintain fire safety measures inside PEB sheds. They must be equipped with fire fighting supplies such as fire alarms, fire hydrants and sprinklers. Regular inspections must be carried out to spot any leaks and damages that might cause fire. PEB sheds must have adequate ventilation and fire resistant storage for the hazardous items in the warehouse.
Electrical Safety:
PEB sheds can be made electrically safe if proper electrical installations, grounding, and maintenance are carried out. Electrical hazards such as shocks and fires can be prevented by ensuring that wiring and panels are done by qualified electricians in compliance with electrical codes and safety regulations. The electrical equipment such as motors, generators, and transformers should also be installed, grounded, and regularly maintained to prevent potential hazards.
In addition, electrical load calculations should be carried out before setting up safety rules and regulations inside the PEB shed, and workers should receive appropriate electrical training to identify potential hazards and handle emergency situations.Looking for PEB shed manufacturers in India?

Factors that impact PEB costs
Pre-engineered buildings (PEBs) are modern steel structures that are manufactured off-site and assembled on-site. These structures can be customised according to the specific requirements of the client, such as size, height, and width. Compared to traditional steel structures, PEBs are lightweight and offer greater efficiency. If you are planning to use PEB structures for your next project, it's important to consider the cost implications. To help you make an informed decision, here are some insights on the cost of PEBs.
Some insights on the cost of PEBs
-
Size of PEB structure :
The size of a PEB structure affects the overall cost. The size of a building determines its composition requirements. For instance, larger buildings require more foundation solutions and heat-resistant materials than smaller ones do. Also, more workers are needed for larger buildings, increasing the cost of labour. The transportation costs associated with moving the structures from the manufacturing unit to the assembly site will also be higher. Large PEB projects often require heavy equipment such as bulldozers and cranes that add to the expenses.
-
Location:
If the site is situated in a favourable geological area, the foundation costs can be reduced. However, the environmental conditions surrounding the construction site also play a significant role in determining construction costs. For instance, in manufacturing factories located in coastal areas, which are highly corrosive due to salt air, special materials and modern material handling technologies are necessary to ensure high corrosion resistance. This results in higher construction costs.
-
Design of PEB structure :
The design process for a PEB is generally carried out in two phases - the first phase involves the structural design of the building. The second phase involves designing all other components such as floors, roofs and cladding systems. The design process often takes place in conjunction with local authorities or government agencies which have specific requirements regarding building codes and regulations.
Even though PEB structures are manufactured following standard design requirements, there might be situations where client requirements lead to customisations. Customisation also means that specialised materials will be required for manufacturing the PEB components. For example, if your construction project has a unique shape or design, you may require custom parts such as insulation to control the temperature and ventilation inside the building.
As the design of the PEB directly impacts the load bearing structure, the type of materials used and the overall aesthetic solution, it is important that you find a reputable PEB company for the best possible design outcome.
-
Building materials used:
Quality of building materials used also affects the cost of PEB structure. The better the quality of materials, the higher will be the cost. For instance, using steel instead of wood for framing in PEB structures can significantly increase the costs, but it also offers better durability and greater flexibility in design options.
-
Erection time:
The cost of a PEB structure is influenced by the price of steel used in its construction. Hence, it is important to be aware of the constant fluctuations in steel prices that can impact the overall cost of the PEB structure. The duration required to construct a PEB unit also has a significant impact on project costs. Therefore, it is essential to determine a fixed timeline for your construction project. Completing the PEB structure on time can help to reduce costs associated with extra labour, prolonged durations, and rentals for specialised equipment, which can result in increased overhead expenses.

PEB structure maintenance dos and do nots
Pre-Engineered Buildings (PEB) structures are components used in commercial settings that are fabricated off-site and assembled on location, making them a popular choice for businesses that require quick adaptation to changes or growth. However, to ensure that these structures remain serviceable and have an extended lifespan, proper maintenance is essential. Here are some guidelines to follow in maintaining PEB structures:
Dos:
Regular inspection: PEB structures require regular inspection. Inspections are important to identify possible issues of leakage and damage. With regular inspection, signs of corrosion, wear and tear can be easily spotted before it causes any significant harm to the structure. Corrosion or damage can compromise the overall integrity of the structure.
Early identification of corroded portions of the structure can enable precautionary measures to be taken. Inspections also help evaluate the quality of welds, connections, and bolts to ensure that they meet the necessary standards. Identifying damages early on can facilitate maintenance and repair of the structure, enhancing its overall lifespan.
Cleaning: It is important to regularly clean all the components of the PEB systems to extend the lifespan and longevity of the building. The accumulation of dirt, dust and debris on the PEB structures can trap moisture and lead to corrosion and rust. This tends to weaken the PEB structure and deteriorate its structural integrity. Also, the buildup of debris can clog the drainage system which can further lead to accumulation of water on the roofs. This causes significant leaks and damage to the interiors. Depending on the location of the structure, climate of the area and other environmental factors, cleaning and maintenance routine should be decided. For instance, structures situated in an area that experiences high levels of pollution or extreme humidity should be cleaned frequently.
Maintenance of fasteners: Fasteners hold all the components and elements together. Hence they should be tightened frequently. Fasteners are hardware joints that consist of nuts, screws, bolts and rivets. It is important to maintain the fasteners because corrosion of these elements can significantly impact the entire structure. Fasteners should be immediately replaced if there are any indications of damage.
Maintenance of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system: Regular maintenance of the HVAC in PEB structures is essential to ensure a comfortable indoor environment. A properly functioning HVAC system can also help reduce energy bills by minimising energy usage and prevent costly repairs that can cause downtime. In addition, they play a crucial role in removing dust, allergens, and contaminants from the indoor air, which enhances indoor air quality.
Don'ts:
Do not ignore signs of damage: It is important to not ignore signs of damage, such as cracks or rust
Do not overload: Do not put excess load on the PEB structure. The structure is designed to handle a specific load capacity. Going beyond a certain level can impact its structural integrity and lead to early damage
Do not use corrosive chemicals: The use of corrosive chemicals for cleaning should be avoided. Some chemicals contain corrosive substances that can harm the surface of the PEB structure
Do not neglect the gutters and drains: Gutters and drains are important elements that prevent accumulation of water and safely guide them through drainage outlets. These should be cleaned regularly to avoid clogging, damage and leaks

Why is PEB Industrial Shed a Good Choice for the Environment?
These days, going green with construction practices is not a choice but a commitment to the planet. If you are looking for ways to reduce the carbon footprint of your project, a steel PEB industrial shed is worth considering. Known for its durability and easy installation, it is well-suited for use in industrial environments. As a PEB industrial shed is able to withstand extreme weather conditions, it is an ideal choice for warehouses, manufacturing plants, and distribution centres. Here we share with why is PEB industrial shed a good choice for the environment:
It reduces waste generated during construction: One major advantage of a PEB industrial shed is that it can be manufactured off-site in a controlled factory environment. This not only allows for greater precision in the fabrication process, but it also reduces the amount of waste generated during construction. As traditional building materials are not used, there is no need for water for construction and installation. Moreover, they can be easily transported and assembled on-site, reducing the amount of heavy equipment and energy required for construction.
PEB industrial shed is recyclable: Made of steel, all parts of PEB industrial shed are recyclable. The best part is that steel can be easily and quickly disintegrated from other waste materials by using electromagnets. The inherent property of steel to be recycled multiple times without losing strength makes a PEB industrial shed an eco-friendly option.
It can be easily transported and reused: PEB industrial shed is preferred choice for green projects as it is relocatable. Thanks to the modular design, a PEB industrial shed can be easily disassembled and reassembled at a new location. This makes them a sustainable option for projects that have a temporary or short-term need for a building, such as temporary housing or event spaces. This helps to avoid the need for new building construction and, therefore, helps to conserve natural resources. This reduces the environmental impact of construction.
It is less likely to end up in a landfill: Waste from construction sites ends up in landfill that leads to land scarcity and displacement of natural habitats. As PEB industrial shed is recyclable, it will last longer and less likely to end up in a landfill the way most traditional brick and mortar structures do. Thus, by using a PEB industrial shed for your project, you can significantly reduce waste from construction sites.
It is low maintenance: Another advantage of using a PEB industrial shed is their durability. These buildings are able to withstand extreme weather conditions and the steel is resistant to fire and corrosion. How are PEB Steel Structures Better than RCC Buildings?
In the construction sector, there is a major focus on faster delivery of projects and PEB structures help you achieve that. In India, the demand for PEB Vs RCC -- which is better?
We share how PEB steel structures are better than RCC buildings:
-
Cost:
As far as the manufacturing cost of PEB structures is concerned, they are more affordable. The reason being specialised computer analysis and design software optimise material requirement. Moreover, made in a controlled environment, there are fewer variable factors that can delay the work and drive up the cost. The process of installation is simple and quick and, thus, entails lower labour costs. On the other hand, making RCC buildings is a costly process, involving expensive building materials, a lot of manpower and time.
-
Time:
The timeline of RCC buildings depends on various factors, starting from the condition of the construction site, availability of construction materials, to last-minute changes. Even if the construction site is being readied, the work on PEB structures can be started simultaneously in a factory, saving time. Moreover, as PEB structures are designed, engineered, and made in a controlled environment, there are less variables involved that can delay the work.
-
Load bearing capacity:
The load bearing capacity of PEB structures is taken into consideration, ensuring that the entire frame is sturdy and durable. Moreover, advanced software simulations are run on the structure before it is assembled. This helps in calculating accurate load bearing capacity. The load carrying capacity of steel is higher than traditional construction materials.
-
Earthquake resistance:
PEB structures withstand earthquakes more effectively as compared to the RCC buildings. The reason being RCC buildings are brittle so they are less earthquake resistant.
-
Weather resistant:
Exposure to moisture and rain affects the structural integrity of an RCC building. However, the use of corrosion resistant steel ensures the longevity of PEB structures.
-
Maintenance:
PEB steel structures require less maintenance as compared to the RCC buildings. RCC buildings are likely to be affected by weather conditions, requiring repair and maintenance work. As made from high quality steel beams and columns, they do not corrode or absorb water.
-
Return on investment:
PEB steel structures are a great option for temporary warehouses, storage facilities and offices. Once the project is over, they can be dismantled and re-installed in a different location.. On the other hand, an RCC building structure cannot be moved to a different place. In case, a PEB structure is not needed at all, the steel can be sold and reused. The materials used in RCC building construction cannot be reused after the destruction of the structure.
-
Foundation:
For RCC buildings, the foundation needs to be strong to take the weight of large weight of the concrete. PEB structures can be assembled without foundation.

Planning your next project? Here’s why you should consider using our pre-engineered building structures:
Reduced construction time:
One of the key benefits of PEB buildings is that they can be built in much less time than conventional concrete buildings. The components are engineered beforehand and standardised. This reduces the engineering, production and erection time. The use of software for design and drafting speeds up the design phase. Moreover, the use of highly sophisticated machinery such as beam welding machine, plasma cutting machines and shear cutting machines greatly reduce the time of fabrication of built-up components.
PEB structures can withstand extreme weather conditions:
PEB buildings are built of I-frames which are sturdy in nature and are designed to take heavy loads. Since load considerations are already taken into account before construction, this can greatly enhance the quality of the structure. They can also resist the effects of earthquakes.
PEB structure is low maintenance:
Even before the manufacturing of PEB structure starts, the quality of materials to be used is taken into consideration. The use of corrosion resistant steel ensures that the structure can withstand different operating conditions. This reduces the maintenance required on the structure for longer periods of time.
PEB structure is easy to install:
Since most of the engineering of the structure is done in the factory during the prefabrication stage, this reduces the efforts required at the actual construction site. They can be easily transported to the site and assembled using bolts and nuts. As the assembly process is easy, this reduces manual labour.
PEB structure is cost-effective:
As the materials are chosen during the design phase and all the calculations are run beforehand, this ensures efficient material usage and less wastage of money. Moreover, a PEB structure can be shifted from one place to another, giving you more return on your investment.
PEB structure is environmentally friendly:
PEB structure is preferred for green projects as they are relocatable. This means the same structure can be shifted to a different place and used again. Moreover, no water needed is for construction.

Pre-engineered metal building maintenance tips: useful insights by a PEB manufacturer
A pre-engineered metal building is designed for excellent durability and superior strength. However just like any structure, proper maintenance can increase the lifespan of the pre-engineered metal building. The frequency of maintenance depends on the kind of environmental factors that the pre-engineered metal building is exposed to. For instance, a pre-engineered metal building installed in humid areas requires more frequent maintenance than buildings in areas with dry weather conditions. As a reputed PEB manufacture, we share useful insights on pre-engineered metal building maintenance:
Ensure that fasteners are not loose and rusted:
Over time, fasteners can become loose. If not tightened, they may allow water to seep into the building during the monsoon. The exposure to water will cause the frame of the building to corrode faster than usual.
Check other accessories:
Doors, shutters and vents must be checked. The hinges and locks of the doors must be lubricated so that they swing open and close smoothly. The tracks of sliding doors must be cleaned and lubricated.
Wash the building annually:
Just like any other structure, a pre-engineered metal building too will gather dust and dirt. To keep it looking like new, a good wash can help. Use a low-pressure power washer and a suitable cleansing solution and clean the structure at least once a year.
Apply fresh coat of paint:
A pre-engineered steel building with a galvanised coat is highly durable and resistant to corrosion. However, in buildings where heavy equipment such as forklifts or cranes are used, dents and scratches can be seen on the building. If left untreated, the corrosion can spread, compromising the building"s foundations. It is always a good idea to repaint the building and keep it protected.
Note: Ask your PEB manufacturer about the suitable coating for the structure. Use recommended paint only.
Check the insulation:
A pre-engineered metal building requires insulation to maintain a comfortable temperature indoors. When the insulation is damaged, it may lead to drafts and moisture build-up. This can not only increase the heating and cooling costs but can also make the metal parts vulnerable to corrosion. Inspect the building"s insulation regularly and take corrective measures if and when necessary.
Note: Utkarsh PEB structures cover all of the above so that maintenance would not be an issue with our products.

FAQs on PEB Structures
Pre-engineered building (PEB) buildings are steel structures that are manufactured and fabricated in a factory and then assembled at the site of construction. PEB structures are made by highly trained specialists and experienced manufacturers. PEB structures have roofs, beams and columns and can be easily customised to fulfil the requirement of the client.
If you are looking to buy PEB structures for your business, you are probably inundated with a lot of options. As a reputed PEB building manufacturer, we have curated some frequently asked questions and their answers that will help you make informed decisions:
Question 1: What are the advantages of PEB structures?
PEB structures offer numerous advantages. Some of them are:
Faster execution: As construction takes place in the factory as well as construction site, this expedites the project timeline.
Cost-effective: PEB structures are cheaper and easier to construct as they are built in a factory environment. This means that the building is constructed off-site, pre-built, and then transported to the construction site. The process saves time and money.
Low maintenance: PEB structures made of prefabricated metal components such as steel which does not easily rust or corrode. Maintenance is limited to periodic checking and cleaning. Steel structures are durable and low maintenance, making them a great choice for any project, be it warehouses, airport terminal buildings, factories and cold storage facilities.
Superior strength and durability: High-quality PEB structures are designed to withstand even the most extreme weather conditions, so you can rest assured about their longevity.
Q 2. Are PEB structures earthquake resistant?
Yes, PEB structures are known for their strength and durability. When designed well using high-quality materials, they can withstand earthquakes and other natural calamities. However, the durability of the structure will also depend upon:
The purpose with which PEB structures are designed
The materials used in the time of manufacturing
The design of the PEB structures
Technology used to manufacture the PEB structures
Question 3: Do PEB structures require high maintenance?
PEB structures are made of prefabricated steel and have the ability to withstand extreme weather conditions. High-quality galvanised steel increases the life cycle of the buildings. Galvanisation helps protect against corrosion and rusting. Thus, PEB structures are low maintenance.
Question 4: Are PEBs expensive?
It is wrongly assumed that PEB structures are expensive. Due to their fast construction, they give better value for money and time. Also, they are more effective and efficient in terms of time and costs. PEB structures cost less than RCC buildings as they need less labour and material input.
Question 5: Are PEB structures ideal only in the manufacturing industry?
Although PEB structures are widely used for making factories, factory sheds, and warehouses, their application is not limited to that. Today, they are being used to make small car parking sheds, aircraft hangars and low-rise multi-storey buildings.
Question 6: What will be the approximate cost of a PEB structure ?
The cost of PEB structures is highly subjective. They depend upon the land area, construction site area, the height of the structure and several other factors. Our engineers can make a site visit and understand your requirements. Finally, a quotation will be generated with detailed pricing and timelines.
