What Is The Role Of The Thrie Beam Crash Barrier?

At Utkarsh India we prioritise strength and durability, that’s why our thrie beam crash barriers are designed from robust steel and meet MORTH and IRC specifications. With a 3mm 'Thrie' Beam rail component and sturdy posts, they offer superior protection, galvanised to 550gsm/sq.m for corrosion resistance. Their elevated mounting position enhances shock endurance, making them ideal for median separators, hilly roads, and bridges, ensuring reliable road safety.

There is a recent upsurge in vehicular traffic and road accidents. With more vehicles on rampant speeds on road, there is a growing need for appropriate infrastructure. Crash barriers in a road and transport plan helps to keep the vehicle on the right path and maintain street security. One of the common types of crash barriers installed in bridges are thrie barriers to ensure safe and convenient transportation from one place to another.

To increase the road safety of people and to provide a secure driving experience, crash barriers are installed to withstand the impact of vehicles of certain weights at a certain angle while traveling at the specified speed.

What Is The Thrie Beam Crash Barrier?

The Thrie beam crash barriers are installed on roads to protect errand cars from crashing off the road. It has a three-wave cross-sectional design to increase the strength and durability of the crash barrier. The three-beam cross-sectional is better than the two-wave design for high-risk, accident-prone areas.

Features Of Thrie Beam Crash Barriers

    Strong And Robust Design :

The guardrail is manufactured of steel with a 3mm thick 'Thrie' Beam rail component. Each post has a bare thickness of 2.8/2.67/3.0mm, while the rail sits at 85cm off the ground. The width of the W-beam is 311m. The plan additionally meets MORTH and IRC determinations.

    Hot Dip Galvanised Steel :

Hot-dip galvanization is a form of galvanization in which the iron is coated with steel and zinc by dipping the base metal into molten zinc at a temperature of around 450degree Celcius. This prevents the beam rails from corrosion and makes them long-lasting. In Utkarsh India the thrie beam barriers are hot-dip galvanized to 550gsm/sq.m.

It Has A Higher Mounting Position :

The thrie beam crash barriers have a higher mounting position of the rails that helps in increasing the shock endurance from larger vehicles. This makes it an ideal choice for separators on median locations and on the verge of hilly roads or bridges.

Advantages Of Thrie Beam Crash Barrier

    Safety :

The crash barriers are mostly installed on the roadside where there is a high risk of danger or where the car is at high speed to keep the car in the right path and ensure safety.

    High Strength :

The anti-corrosion material of the thrie beam is made of IS 5986/2062/10748 or equivalent grade of Fe360/Fe410/Fe510, it is high with strength and toughness.

    Eco-Friendly :

The material of the guardrail is recyclable and reusable. The broken guardrail can be recycled and made into other products.

    Easy To Install :

Thrie beam is just about bots and nuts assembly which makes it easy to install. This reduces installation time and money. The thrie beam crash barriers are approved by and satisfy all requirements specified by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MORTH), & National Highways Authorities of India (NHAI).

Different types of crash barriers for road safety

W-Beam & Thrie-Beam Guardrails: These crash barriers are used for road safety, W-beam features a connected W-shaped steel panel and is widely deployed for redirecting or containing vehicles during collisions. Similar to W-beam guardrails but with three waves, Thrie-beam barriers provide additional height and strength, making them suitable for higher impact scenarios.

Cable barriers: Tensioned steel cables supported by posts, designed to absorb energy and reduce the severity of impacts. Cable barriers are often used in medians to prevent cross-median crashes.

Concrete barriers: Rigid and made of precast concrete, these barriers are commonly used in medians or along roadsides, offering strong protection against collisions.

Metal Beam crash barriers: These barriers are made of metal beams, typically galvanised for corrosion resistance. They are designed to absorb impact energy and prevent vehicles from leaving the roadway.

Guardrail end treatments: Specially designed crash barriers, are placed at the ends of guardrails to prevent penetration into vehicles during collisions, including energy-absorbing end terminals and crash cushions.

Steel and concrete median barriers: Deployed in medians, these barriers prevent head-on collisions and are available in both steel and concrete constructions.

Water-filled barriers: Temporary barriers made of plastic and filled with water, are often used in construction zones or for short-term events.

Bridge barriers: Crash barriers for bridges are used to prevent vehicles from veering off the sides of the bridge structure, enhancing safety on elevated roadways.

    Conclusion

Imparting awareness about road safety and installation of such crash barriers have significantly reduced accident rates in India and have increased survival rates and Utkarsh India is helping in road safety with the W-beam Crash barrier. It is the invisible force behind "India's Road Safety".
Utkarsh India manufactures all major types of crash barriers, which include W-Beam Crash Barriers, Thrie Beam Crash Barriers, and associated components.

All About A Thrie Beam Crash Barrier And Its Specifications

The importance of a metal crash barrier will never be realized until it someday saves our life.

They are created to prevent major accidents when vehicles lose their balance and run off the road or roll down high embankments. In the unfortunate event of an accident, a metal crash barrier contains, redirects, or absorbs the impact energy of the hitting vehicle and guides the automobile back on the road. Consequently, the severity of the accident, damage to the vehicle as well as the barrier, and the force experienced by the vehicle occupants is minimized to a tolerable limit.

A Metal CrashBarrier is installed in accident-prone locations such as highways, flyovers& bridges, rocky areas, hilly terrain, high embankments, test tracks in the automobile industry, mass housing complexes/townships, airports, railway stations, and parking lots.

The excellent visibility of a metal crash barrier highlights the limit of safe travel, especially at night or in fog conditions. That is why a metal crash barrier proves to be beneficial for drivers venturing out late at night.

Utkarsh India deals in all types of W Beam Crash Barriers, Thrie Beam Crash Barriers, and related components, as well as anchorage systems.

In today's blog, we will throw some light on Thrie Beam Crash Barriers - what they are and their specifications. So stay tuned.

What is a Thrie Beam Crash Barrier?

A Thrie beam crash barrier has three waves. Compared to two-wave-shaped products, a three-beam crash barrier has a more durable construction and higher impact endurance.

Now let's have a quick look at some of the typical specifications of a Thrie Beam Crash Barrier -

=> The Thrie Beam Crash Barrier comprises a steel post and a 3mm thick rail element.

=> The steel post and the spacer are 75mm x 150mm and 5mm thick.

=> The rail sits at 85cm off the ground and is driven into the ground to a length of 1150 mm.

=> The design conforms to the Indian (MORTH - Ministry of Road Transport and Highways), American (AASHTO M180), Euronorm (EN 1317 - 1&2), Indian Road Congress (IRC) specifications.

=> Manufactured using the Cold Roll Forming Technology with multiple roll forming stations ensuring greater strength due to grain reorientation as compared to the normal press-formed sections.

=> Raw Material used is ST - 42/IS 5986 FE 410/510-grade steel sourced from leading trusted brands like SAIL, TATA, and Hindustan Zinc

=> All the steel components and fasteners are galvanized by the hot-dip process of high-grade zinc coating (550 GSM minimum)
